Let the Blind Sing

LIFTED

"Lifted - Let the Blind Sing" is a music production aimed at embracing, creating awareness, and promoting musical artists living with disabilities in South Africa. The production is the brainchild of Zakhele Mabena, an esteemed South African producer and director who has won the Naledi Award. This project is developed in partnership with the South African State Theatre and the Akili Wotè Foundation. The production features a diverse cast and production team, totaling 30 members. Among them, 16 individuals have disabilities, including eight blind males, one physically disabled male who uses a wheelchair, and two females with different disabilities—one with visual impairment and the other physically disabled. We firmly believe that it's time to showcase inclusive productions on prominent stages, challenging the status quo in the music industry and breaking away from pity-driven narratives.

I AM DYSLEXIA

The Akili Wote Foundation is preparing "I AM DYSLEXIA," an initiative to raise awareness about dyslexia and support affected children. Dyslexia is a neurological condition that affects reading, writing, and spelling abilities, and it is not a sign of low intelligence or caused by vision or hearing problems. The project aims to promote understanding, acceptance, and provide resources to create a supportive and inclusive environment for those with dyslexia.
